Stretewise - The Village Magazine - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

STRETE is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From sea to beach, cliffs to the Village and to the surrounding countryside you can see why the area is one of the rare locations in the United Kingdom that is recognised for its Beauty.

Covering 337 square kilometres (130 square miles) of coastline, estuaries and countryside, South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) stretches from Berry Head in Brixham to Jennycliff in Plymouth. As well as being a place of fabulous views and fantastic countryside it is home to 34,000 people. The shaded area in the map below shows the South Devon AONB designated area.

The AONB Partnership Committee and Staff Unit do not have any planning powers: planning policy and applications are dealt with by the four local planning authorities (South Hams District CouncilTorbay CouncilPlymouth City Council and Devon County Council). But there are special planning policies to protect the AONB, and the AONB Staff Unit does provide planning guidance to the local authorities.
